Gerard I, comte d' Auvergne was a relative of Ebroin, Bishop of Poitiers.2 He was possibly, per Helmut Schwager, the son of Theoderich of Laon; brother of Count William I of Auvergne (+840/50).2 He was the friend and first counselor of King Pipppin I of Aquitaine.2 He was born circa 793. He married Mathilda des Francs, daughter of Hludowic I Pius, empereur auguste and Ermengardis d' Hesbaye.2 He married Hildegarde des Francs, daughter of Hludowic I Pius, empereur auguste and Ermengardis d' Hesbaye, circa 820; His 2nd (sister of 1st).3 He was given the county of Auvergne by Louis the Pious in 838.4 Count of Auvergne between 838 and 841.3,4 He was an Aquitaine magistrate before 841.
